Maseru Tapestries and Mats

Matela Weavers was started by an English lady. In 1998, the founder left the country. At that time there were many Basotho women working there. But about 10 weavers left and under the supervision of Mrs. Lebitsa they joined together and formed an association, they also changed the name, and called the new one Maseru Tapestries and Mats.
Our rugs and tapestries reflect the warmth and vibrancy of life in Africa whilst achieving a high standard of professional design and styles.
They are hand-woven using mohair, which is moth-proofed and it obtains its glorious colours from colourfast dyes. As well as our standard range of designs we specialize in commission work for interior designers, business organizations, and private customers. We employ the services of a number of artists to satisfy the diversity of orders that we regularly undertake.
We charge our prices in square meters, starting at South African Rands 800-850 per square meter. We welcome visitors to our workshop in Raboshabane Road in the industrial area of Maseru.
